The psychology behind a threat actor

| September 2022 Member Event

A fantastic evening last night with the ISC2 London Chapter and Information Systems Security Association – UK Chapter (ISSA-UK), hosted by J.P. Morgan over at Canary Wharf.

The theme was ‘the psychology behind a threat actor’ and couldn’t have been more timely given some of the discussions and talks taking place at the International Cyber Expo this week and from the various committees and forums that a lot of us attend. What does motivate an attack? Regardless of whether it is nation-state or nation-state affiliated or an independent organised crime unit there is motivation and there seems to be intelligence to suggest that finance is not a driving force. So what is it?

We had three amazing speakers who brought a very different approach to the topic and thanks goes to Anton Angione who took us through cyber crime and the ‘witchcraft’ behind it, Philip Virgo who brought us all up to speed an a raft of initiatives that are in various stages of maturity within London, particularly with regards to youths and youth crime and how society can help harness and guide these people to make effective use of their skills and finally to Lisa Forte who spoke passionately about what we do once we have been subjected to a ransomware attack!

If you would like to become involved in any of the mentioned initiatives please contact either Philip Virgo or send an email to initiatives@isc2londonchapter.co.uk
