(ISC)² London Chapter Member Meeting – 28th November

The final members meeting of 2018 took place on Wednesday 28th November and proved to be a great end to the Chapter’s first year in operation. Membership has progressively grown month on month and this event was fully booked!

Members were treated to two presentations, the first from Nick Coombs who presented research results on vulnerabilities in opensource code and why the size of the challenge requires focus on CI/CD automation and the second from Yiannis Pavlosoglou (co-chair of the ISC2 EMEA Advisory Council) who provided an update on (ISC)2 as a whole and their increased focus on supporting the Chapter.

James Packer CISSP, CCSP discussed the education framework going forward into 2019 and the launch of the new website: www.isc2londonchapter.co.uk

Key for the Chapter and a fitting end to the year was that the London Chapter had the opportunity to present two new members who, not only were interested enough to join the chapter but, agreed to start and head-up our first new sub-committee within the Educational Initiative.   This is an important step forward as both are taking on key areas of the Initiative that the Chapter is looking to develop.

Sophie Kazemi, from Deep Secure, whose venue we were lucky enough to use and whose colleagues presented a very entertaining live demo on data ex-filtration using steganography, has been involved in researching potential alliances and partnerships within London.  Alliances and Partnerships are a core part of the strategy within the Education Initiative as we look to find those partners who can help us provide maximum value in educating and protecting people against scams, cyber bullying and other malicious activities which are inflicted on individuals on a daily basis.

Jarrod Smith, a cyber analyst from ITC Secure is communicating and working with Universities, again another key area for not only the Chapter but also for (ISC)2 as a whole as we look to strengthen and develop our profession by encouraging people to join us as a profession.

These are both important steps for the Chapter and their addition and effort has already made great in-roads for the Chapter going forward into 2019.

The expanding team finished the year with a festive bang at our leadership workshop and dinner.

There are still many areas where both (ISC)2 members and non-members can join the Officers and set up other Sub-Committees within either Educational Initiative or within one of our other initiatives. If you are interested please contact Senan Largey our Initiatives Officer!

Have a Merry Christmas and New Year and look forward to see you all in 2019 at our first Members Meeting which will be in March!
