We are seeking (ISC)2 London Chapter members to join us at the (ISC)2 stand at InfoSec Europe. InfoSec Europe is scheduled for 20-22 June 2023 at ExCel, London. There will be (ISC)2 staff on the stand throughout the event, and it would be great to have Chapter representatives at the stand for 1 or 2 hours a day (welcome to stay longer).

Call for (ISC)² SECURE London Speakers Now Open!

Following its successful launch last year, (ISC)² SECURE London will reconvene in person on 21 September 2023 to explore the latest current issues impacting cybersecurity. Professionals involved in every aspect of cyber, information, software, IT and infrastructure security will engage in a full day of new learning and partnership opportunities with their peers and industry vendors.

We are looking for speaker submissions to accommodate all levels.  Do you and your colleagues have a compelling experience, innovation or point of view to share?

Submit your proposals on one or more topic areas for consideration. From expert advice to industry insights, presentations that speak to the interests of our professional audience are encouraged.

The psychology behind a threat actor

A fantastic evening last night with the ISC2 London Chapter and Information Systems Security Association – UK Chapter (ISSA-UK), hosted by J.P. Morgan over at Canary Wharf.

The theme was ‘the psychology behind a threat actor’ and couldn’t have been more timely given some of the discussions and talks taking place at the International Cyber Expo this week and from the various committees and forums that a lot of us attend. What does motivate an attack? Regardless of whether it is nation-state or nation-state affiliated or an independent organised crime unit there is motivation and there seems to be intelligence to suggest that finance is not a driving force. So what is it?

Volunteer opportunities within various community outreach programmes

Help transform the Cyber Community Safety of London

(ISC)2 London Chapter is sharing details of various programs of work to our members for volunteer opportunities. These programme of projects are being initiated to help transform the Cyber Community Safety of London.

Planning is under way for overlapping projects to create a Cyber Resilience Centre for London and a Cybersecurity Sector Careers Partnership .  Both are likely to be publicly announced in September but they both need serious innovation and resourcing in order to succeed in meeting expectations.

Entry-Level Cybersecurity Certification

(ISC)2 has created an entry-level cybersecurity certification that will provide a first step through which we can attract and develop diverse talent for the cybersecurity teams of the future, including students, recent college graduates and career changers.

We’ve compiled an exam outline with more details on the content that each domain will cover.   Candidates can register for the exam or explore education options at (ISC)2 entry-level-certification-pilot.

Chief Information Security Officer – how do we identify a CISO?

With the closing of 2021 the ISC2 London Chapter December event focused on the role of a CISO. 

It was quickly apparent that the expectations of a CISO are vast, and the role varied between organisations.  Tim Holman’s (2|Sec) presentation questioned the skills and qualifications that were truly required for a CISO role.  In conclusion the CISO role was more of an advisory role across the different business units without necessarily ownership of the business function.

ISF Conference 2020

The ISF Conference 2020 took place 16-19th November as a virtual event, having initially been scheduled to take place in Poland.  The virtual experience was extremely impressive and the technology ran throughout each day without fault.  Other than the inability to see or talk to actual people all the key components were there, with full bio’s on all the speakers, key note sessions, a library to browse and download ISF white-papers and materials, auditorium, which you entered to here the key note speakers, break-out rooms and interactive workshops via zoom.  Chapter Officer Liz Banbury had the following to say about the event.
